Replacing Your Equipment
Upgrade your system to lower your fuel bills
If your heating system is more than 25 years old, or if you’ve had more than a few service calls in the last couple of years, it’s time to start thinking about replacing your equipment. For one thing, your boiler or furnace is reaching the end of its expected working life, which means that it has already lost efficiency and will continue to do so.
As an illustration, say that your fuel bill last year totaled $2,000. After you trade up to a new, high-efficiency system, your fuel bills drop by 30%. This means that you’ll save about $600 per year, and by taking advantage of available rebates, your new system will (on average) largely pay for itself in as little as six or seven years.
But the good news is that today’s high-efficiency heating systems are more effective as well. Once your new system is installed, you will start saving on fuel bills right away, and because your system features the latest technological advances, you’ll enjoy more consistent comfort.
How much can you save?
This depends on the efficiency of your current system, its age, and the condition of the system as a whole. But in general terms, there’s the potential to save 20% to 30% on your annual fuel bills—or even more!
As an illustration, say that your fuel bill last year totaled $2,000. After you trade up to a new, high-efficiency system, your fuel bills go down by 20%. This means that you’ll save $400 per year, and that means your new system will (on average) largely pay for itself in as little as six or seven years.
There’s yet another benefit that comes with new, high-efficiency heating equipment: fewer repair bills. In fact, if properly maintained, your system should deliver many years of problem-free service.
